Functionalization of alumina particles to improve the performance of eco-friendly brake-pads

Abstract Abrasives, such as oxides of alumina (Al), silica (Si), zirconia (Zr), chromium (Cr) etc., are added to raise the friction level and also remove glaze on disc so that surface will be rejuvenated continuously during braking contribute maintain desired level. However, these inorganic particles have less adhesion with resin/binder hence easily dug out wearing process contributing higher wear. If efforts made enhance filler-matrix adhesion, not only wear material (FM) should reduce, may stay for a longer time tribo-surface pads fully towards controlling coefficient ( μ ). In present study, were selected siloxane treatment improve adhesion. Two types eco-friendly (free from asbestos Cu) brake-pads developed using theme ingredient (treated untreated) keeping all parent formulation identical. An additional type without was observe effect abrasive tribo-performance.
